  • MDISMumbai : The Management Development Institute of Singapore (MDIS) has launched three new Engineering programmes: Bachelor of Engineering (Hons) Mechanical Engineering, Bachelor of Engineering (Hons) Electrical and Electronic Engineering, and Master of Science Project Management, offered in partnership with Northumbria University (UK).

    The Engineering programmes at MDIS are aimed to produce graduates proficiently for challenging and rewarding careers in all facets of engineering, ranging from R&D, product design to development and manufacturing. MDIS’ Head of School of Engineering, Dr Lai Yin Ling, explains, “Many employers find value in employing engineers, whether it is for management, operational, execution or planning roles, regardless of the sector. Engineers are known for their excellent analytical skills and the Northumbria University programmes are specifically tailored to prepare them for the rigours of a fulfilling career.”

    Students will have the opportunity to hone their skills at the School’s laboratories/workshops, which come equipped with electronic development kits, measurement and instrumentation devices, microprocessors, control systems, engineering software, and various apparatus and machines in the areas of heat transfer, thermodynamics and fluid mechanics, and manufacturing. The first intakes are in September 2015.

    MDIS is Singapore’s oldest not-for-profit professional institute for lifelong learning, and is EduTrust-certified by the country’s Council for Private Education since 2010 for business and quality excellence.

    MDIS also offers Merit Scholarships (International), which are awarded to qualified students on the basis of academic merit, leadership potential, special talents or other personal characteristics. These scholarships are valued at S$3,200 for Bachelor’s programmes and S$4,000 for Master’s programmes.

    International students will get to experience living and learning in an integrated campus environment. The MDIS Residences@Stirling is a 15-storey hostel located within the campus, with 782 air-conditioned rooms, 14 suites, a lecture theatre and a cafeteria. The eco-friendly hostel can accommodate some 1,700 students and is the very first hostel in Singapore to be awarded the Green Mark Gold Plus Award.

    The MDIS Campus in Stirling Road occupies a 3-hectare land area and offers 71 classrooms, 5 computer laboratories, 4 life sciences laboratories, 3 engineering laboratory and workshops, a hospitality training centre, a mass communications studio, as well as a fashion studio. The campus also has an amphitheatre to house art performances and other events, as well as fully-equipped sports facilities such as a gymnasium. MDIS is also certified to ISO-9001:2008 standards, and has a life science laboratory certified to OHSAS 18001:2007 standards.
