  • Mumbai: SKORE Condoms, the iconic youth condom brand conducted India’s first design contest and fashion show “SKORE Fashionista”, in Mumbai. The glamorous event, intending to break the barriers of taboo towards condoms, brought together 36 teams comprising of 78 students from 11 institutes in the city to design and create Pic1chic costumes using SKORE condoms. Pearl Academy, INIFD and WLCI are some of the well-known institutes that are part of the event. Well known film personality, Mugdha Godse was the celebrity showstopper of the event, displaying condom wear designed by the students.

The 2 month long contest starting from registrations to submitting sketches, screening of the designs, to putting together the dynamic pieces, generated widespread excitement across the student community. The upscale event had many a big names like Shruti Bhola & Swabhi Mangal from MEMORE Store to add glitz to the show. A.D.Singh, eminent designer based in Mumbai, Chief Advisor & Judge and Amy Billimoria, distinguished Celebrity Fashion Designer & Judge of the event announced Ms. Elsa Nillaj of International Institute of Fashion Design (INIFDS), Andheri as winner of the SKORE Fashionista and Sneha Bhandari and Nusrat Sayed of Rachna Sansad College, Dadar were runner ups of the competition.

The first of its kind event in Mumbai was a blend of creativity, exchange of ideas, grooming talent and making a bold statement with condoms! Rotaract Club of Bombay Film City (RCBF) worked alongside SKORE to spread the message across to the society.

Addressing the media, Mr.Vishal Vyas, General Manager, Marketing, SKORE Condoms, “SKORE is a brand that has always stood out for its innovation in the segment. The main idea behind associating with the students to conduct an event of this caliber is to make Condoms a fashion statement. In a country like India in which the society still shies away from talking about condoms in the open, our intention is to rationalize the stigma around condoms by generating interest around it just like any other consumer product.”

Speaking of the initiative by SKORE Condoms, Mr.A.D.Singh, Designer said, “SKORE Fashionista is a one of a kind initiative by SKORE condoms.  It was interesting to see the student community come together to put up such a fabulous show. Having been involved right from the starting stages of the contest, it gives me immense pleasure to see the kind of variety and novelty that the students have showcased in the form of their designs. SKORE has not only aimed to make a fashion statement with condoms, but has also given young talent an opportunity to display their talent.”

Commenting on her association with SKORE Fashionista, Amy Billimoria said, “The concept of fashion and condom meeting on one platform is unique and commendable. Associating with a brand like skore for this event shows the responsibility one should have towards the country and its population by making masses aware of safe sex and other sexually transmitted diseases”

Commenting on the event, Rtr. Harsh Parekh, Project Chairperson said, RCBF is proud to organize “SKORE Fashionista” event which is a fun way to encourage students to talk about safer sex practices and public, global health issues. This upbeat event carries undertones of a much darker and more serious issue. We do believe that by using condoms for clothing it will help to alleviate the word “condom” and deplete some of the stigmas associated with it. The central purpose of the event is to educate students on the continuing epidemic of HIV/ AIDS in our community and hope to reach out to wider swath of students. It’s not just a fashion show, but an event to raise the awareness on HIV/AIDS, “We are the Youth, We carry the Spirit, We have to ACT!

Popular models like Namrata Shetty, Jaspal Kaur, and Nupur Bhaskar cascaded the ramp in style with the help of eminent choreographer, Sneh Vadhani, presenting the range of short skirts, dresses, evening gowns and crop tops, one out beating the other in creativity and style. Putting up a tough fight, participants from various colleges such as Pearl Academy, INIFD & WLCI named the event as a rare and unique opportunity that SKORE has provided for the student community.

SKORE Condom Couture is one of SKORE’s whacky initiatives towards positioning itself as a brand that advocates safe sex in a fun and fashionable way. SKORE, comes from the house of TTK PROTECTIVE DEVICES LTD., the pioneers of the condom manufacturing and marketing in the country. With its catchy tag line ‘there’s a lot to be won’ the name ‘SKORE’ denotes the ‘number of adventurous encounters’ in bed and is designed to appeal to the youth.
