    Opportunities galore in Finance Industry

    Mangalore : Indian Institute of Job Training (IIJT), one of India’s fastest growing career skills training institute organized a seminar on ‘Career in Finance’ at St Agnes College in Mangalore, today. The seminar was organized as part of IIJT’s ‘India Mentors India’ career seminar series.

    Keeping in view the immense opportunities in various sectors, IIJT’s ‘India Mentors India’ aims at bringing together students and industry experts under one roof, to give them an overview of the industry, skills and knowledge expected by recruiters so that students get sufficient time to work on their weaknesses and become job ready on day one after their college.

    Students from St Agnes College, SDM College, Canara College and Besant College participated in the seminar that was addressed by industry and academic thought leaders like –  Shivaram Kamath, Managing Committee Member of The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI); Shyamchandra Bhat, Branch Head and Vice President, Axis Bank, Raghuram Bekal, Area Manager, Cholamandalam Investment & Finance Company Limited and Athar A.Q, General Manager, TeamLease-IIJT.

    Speaking at the seminar session Shivaram Kamath, Chartered Accountant and Managing Committee Member of The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) said, “the finance industry is rapidly evolving and has numerous areas of specialization for students. From managing hedge funds, to creating marketing campaigns, structuring companies and business journalism there are diverse options. Students should look at understanding the job profiles and work towards improving their skills to fulfill the recruiters expectations.”

    Speaking on the occasion Athar A.Q, General Manager and Head – Central Sales Team, TeamLease-IIJT said “According to an IMaCS report on human resource and skill requirements in the BFSI industry is poised to offer employment to 8.4 million people. With tremendous opportunities for skilled man power in the industry, we felt that there is a pressing need to create awareness among students in Mangalore, a city that has given birth to many nationalised banks.”

    Sharing his insights into the career opportunities available in the banking sector, Shyamchandra Bhat, Branch Head and Vice President, Axis Bank   said “Finance industry offers a wide gamut of opportunities for students. It is unfortunate that many candidates who approach us for jobs are not employable due to the lack of necessary employable skills; therefore it brings forth the need for students to do a self-assessment, identifying the weaknesses and start preparing to equip themselves with adequate job skills”.

    RJ Vishwas from 92.7 BIG FM also addressed the students and spoke about the importance of soft skills in shaping a successful career and urged the students to have a positive attitude in life. Students also had an inspiring session with motivational speaker Jenice Goveas who stressed on the importance of taking one’s life and career seriously and provided tips to students on how to achieve success in their career. HOD’s of Commerce from SDM College, Canara College and Besant College participated in the session.
