Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswamy has won the trust vote, after 122 MLAs voted in his favour after hours of uproar in the State Assembly. The vote was concluded following Speaker P Dhanapal turned down the opposition DMK’s request TN Assemblyfor a secret ballot in the floor test.

Earlier, the House was adjourned twice and resumed after the second adjournment at 3 PM. DMK, O. Panneerselvam camp and Congress MLAs were up in protest demanding secret ballot.

DMK members were ordered by Speaker Dhanapal to be evicted en masse following pandemonium ahead of Vote of Confidence.

Congress and IUML members staged a walk out condemning what they called attacks on the DMK members during their eviction.

Later, after the division, Speaker declared that the motion has passed the trust vote and adjourned the House sine die. Meanwhile, DMK members led by MK Stalin rushed to Raj Bhavan and lodged a complaint with Governor Vidyasagar Rao against the incidents in the House.

The DMK also staged protests in front of the Raj Bhavan for a while and then converged in front of the Mahatma Gandhi statue on the Marina Beach. Led by Stalin, they sat in dharna leading to his detention. Later, he was released. Meanwhile, Chief Minister Palaniswamy paid his obeisance in front of late Jayalalithaa’s tomb.

BJP state President Dr Tamilisai Soundararajan told AIR News, the trust vote has been held in an untrustworthy manner and people have raised doubts about the credibility of the Edappadi Palaniswamy government.
