India’s leading urology and laparoscopy hospital’s chain, RG Stone Urology & Laparoscopy Hospital gave a new lease of life to a patient suffering with urinary bladder stone. The stone weighed 450 grams and appeared even larger than a cricket ball. The patient underwent cystolithotomy and is recuperating now.

52yr old, Amlesh Kumar, had been experiencing pain in his lower abdomen since past 20 years. He initially ignored this occasional pain and took Ayurvedic medicines without proper consultation. These medicines relieved him of the pain for only sometime. One morning when the pain became excruciating and he found difficulty in passing urine, he rushed to ESIC Hospital. Here, the doctors thought it either to be a stricture or a case of prostate enlargement and they inserted a catheter to relieve the problem, but it failed. As the pain continued to torment him, he was rushed to RG Stone Urology and Laparoscopy Hospital where his tests revealed that he was suffering with large vesical calculus (stone) in urinary bladder. The stone weighed 450 grams and appeared even bigger than a cricket ball. At RG Stone, Amlesh underwent cystolithotomy and is recuperating now.

Dr.Manish Singla, Sr Consultant Urologist, RG Stone Urology and Laparoscopy Hospital, said,“Given the size of the stone we opted to perform Cystolithotomy instead of the usual minimally invasive procedures. The surgery lasted an hour and the patient is doing very well now.”

Dr.Singla added,“Urological stone disorders are increasing day by day amid all age groups but are not being properly taken care of due to lack of awareness. Bladder stones may occur when urine in the bladder is concentrated and materials crystallize; but may also result from foreign objects in the bladder. “Factors such as temperature and humidity can be responsible for stone formation. Less intake of water or excessive sweating can also contribute. Promoting the intake of water and fluids should be our aim. Besides drinking plenty of fluids, I also advise limiting protein, sodium, phosphorus, and caffeine in diets. Not to forget to mention that in case you suffer from any symptom of urinary stone such as pain in lower abdomen or back, pain while urination, blood in urine, or increased frequency, please consult your doctor and get investigations done. There are different modalities of treatment available. As a health care professional I would advise people not to suffer in silence,”

The patient Amlesh said, “I’m glad that I finally approached RG Stone for my treatment. I had lost all hopes of living when I came to know that the stone has become so large but RG has truly given me a new lease of life. The seriousness of my condition would have been alleviated if I had come to the hospital earlier. I was continuously visiting Tantriks because many people told me that it is a case of some foul air. I would have died in another 2-3 days if I had not visited RG Stone Hospital. I believe awareness should be created among the masses and appreciate that this hospital has taken a stance in this direction.”

According to Dr. Manish Bansal Joint Managing Director,RG Stone Urology and Laparoscopy Hospital, “Kidney stone, also known asrenal calculus is a solid concretion or crystal aggregation formed in the kidneys from dietary minerals in the urine. Urinary stones are typically classified by their location in the kidney, ureter or bladder or by their chemical composition. Kidney stones are a significant source of morbidity. 750%of those with kidney stones are men. The condition may affect people at any age, although it is mainly seen during 25-40 years of age.”

Addressing to media, Baldev Raj, Country Head, (Industrial Expert), RG Stone Urology & Laparoscopy Hospital said, “This is very unfortunate that in a cities like Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, etc where there are ample of facilities available, people still overlook such problems until it escalates into something serious. Like in this case, the patient has been ignoring the ailment from 20 years and was relying on traditional medicines which were of no help. All this happens due to lack of awareness. Considering this, we have started a unique programme “RG VILLAGEDRIVE.

It is an attempt to aware people in the remote villages of India, about various urological disorders and acquaint them with the benefits of a super-super-specialty urological hospital. The drive will help us in creating awareness about treatment available for various urological disorders such as kidney stone, enlarged prostate and laparoscopic treatment for gall bladder stones, hernia,

appendicitis and other minimally invasive surgeries for gynecological disorders, piles etc. Also, it will facilitate us in eradicating several myths associated with these disorders.”

“The lack of awareness combined with inadequacies and lacunae in quality medical service make conditions awful in these rural areas. In dearth of facilities, many disorders including urological ailments often go unrecognized and turn out to be fatal. The need of the hour is to take a stand to bring a possible change in the situation. Keeping this in mind, RG Stone Hospital has brought a unique initiative. In this latest initiative, we will run a medical van across the villages of India to aware people about various urological disorders, give them free medical consultation and distribute its awareness literature on BPH(Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia). This initiative will also aid the patients in these areas who, for some reason, cannot travel to the city to get their check-ups done. Not only will this but as part of its corporate social responsibility, RG Stone avail free treatment to those poor patients who cannot afford it.”, added Baldev Raj
