  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi had a bilateral meeting with Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud in Riyadh, a short while ago. India and Saudi Arabia will sign several key pacts in the fields of oil and gas, renewable energy, defence and civil aviation.

    Earlier in the day, Mr Modi had a useful discussion with Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Environment, Water and Agriculture Abdulrahman bin Abdulmohsen al Fadley towards exploring newer areas of cooperation in the agriculture, food processing & water technologies. Minister of Labour and Social Development Mr. Ahmad bin Sulaiman Alrajhi also called on the Prime Minister and had a discussion.

    Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra had met King Abdullah II of Jordan in Riyadh today. Both the leaders exchanged views on working closely together to strengthen the ties across sectors especially trade & investment, human resource development and people-to-people ties.

    Moreover Mr. Modi will address the third session of Saudi Arabia’s Future Investment Initiative Forum late evening where he will talk about India’s economy, its challenges and opportunities for equitable growth and prosperity. AIR correspondent reports that before addressing the third session of Saudi Arabia’s Future Investment Initiative Forum, Mr. Modi will meet top Saudi leadership and two countries and will sign several agreements to boost the bilateral relations.

    India’s relations with Saudi Arabia have been on an upswing over the last few years as Riyadh is New Delhi’s fourth-largest trading partner. Recently Saudi Arabia said that it is looking at investing 100 billion dollar in India in areas of energy, refining, petrochemicals, infrastructure, agriculture, minerals and mining. Saudi Arabia has been one of the largest and reliable suppliers of India’s energy needs and Prime. The two countries have enjoyed traditionally close and friendly relations and Prime Minister Modi’s visit is expected to further boost it.
