Portuguese tourism delegation conducts India Marketing Blitz Mumbai : Given the importance and potential of India as a source market for leisure and business visitors to the Portugal; the tourism authority of the Government of Portugal (Turismo de Portugal) led a 20 member delegation on a 3 city workshop session covering the Southern states of Karnataka (Bangalore), Tamil Nadu (Chennai) and the important outbound hub of Mumbai in the Western state of Maharashtra.

Through this marketing initiative, the Government of Portugal along with several destination management companies, Portuguese hoteliers and resort owners interacted with 500 Indian private sector organizations comprising travel companies, tour operators, wedding planners / organizers and even film producers and location managers across the 3 cities.

As part of its mandate to tap the increasing film industry role in destination promotion; Portugal’s line production company ‘Cinemate’ also traveled with the delegates to interact with the Tamil, Kannada and Mumbai’s own Bollywood industry officials.

Commenting on the delegation visit, Ms. Claudia Miguel, Trade Relations, Marketing & Promotion Division for Tourism of Portugal said: “The workshop provided a platform for the Portuguese delegation to interact and establish commercial relationships with Indian travel agents, tour operators, wedding planners, and corporate travel agencies to further boost Portugal’s image as Europe’s premier leisure and MICE destination that offers value for money.”

Accompanying the government official of Turismo de Portugal is the Portuguese private sector delegation comprising hotels, destination management companies & tour operators.  Participants included GeoStar Destination Management, Four Seasons Hotel Ritz Lisbon, Martinhal Beach Resort & Hotel, Sofitel Lisbon Liberdade, SANA Hotels, Penha Longa, Ritz Carlton Hotel, Vila Gale Hotels, RDMC, Oasistravel.net, Osiris Travel, Quasar, VEGA & destination management companies such as In Tours Portugal – DMC, Vinitur – DMC, Lusanova DMC, Mr. Travel Portugal – Luxury DMC and Vista DMC, Cinemate – a movie production company & Dubai’s own national carrier – Emirates Airlines.
