  • Quote on Cervical Cancer Awareness Month from Dr. Krithiga Shridhar, Epidemiologist, CCDC

    Published on January 22, 2024

“Globally, countries are committed to eliminating cervical cancer by leveraging vaccination, screening, and early diagnosis and treatment. According to the National Cancer Registry Data, cervical cancer is the leading cancer among women in rural regions and the second most common female cancer in India, accounting for nearly a fifth of all cancers in women. Late diagnosis and poor outcomes across the country are a concern, although there is a declining trend in new cases. Promoting population-level screening and HPV vaccination programs are the essential steps in the right direction. We must identify critical gaps in research and implementation, assess screening preparedness, and foster collaborations to enhance cervical cancer research capacity for better prevention and treatment strategies in India.”
