Rathin Basu is appointed Country President of Alstom India & South Asia as of 1st April 2014, reporting to Philippe Delleur, Senior Vice-President International Network. He will succeed Sunand Sharma, who will continue to support Alstom’s businesses as BasuAdvisor with focus on the neighbouring countries of India and as a Board Member of several legal entities.

Mr. Basu will also continue to head Alstom T&D India Limited (ATDIL) as the Managing Director, in addition to his new role.

Rathin Basu is an Electronic Engineer. He started his career with NTPC in 1978 and then joined the Alstom Group’s subsidiary Cegelec India in 1985. He, as CEO, achieved turnaround and led the growth of Cegelec India during the period from 1989 to 2002. From 2003 to 2007 he was Vice-President for Global Power Distribution Businesses, based in Paris. During this period, he led the turnaround of this business and simultaneously doubled the business volume. In 2007 Rathin returned to India to lead Alstom T&D India’s India growth and market leadership in the T&D domain including the de-merger of the distribution activity in 2010 and to ensure consolidation and development of the transmission business. Over the last 7 years, under his leadership, Alstom T&D India made significant contribution in building a strong electrical grid for India involving AC and DC technologies, leading to trippling the

    Transmission business volume.

Present in India since 1911, Alstom has strong capabilities in engineering, manufacturing, project management, supply of products and solutions for infrastructure. Each of the company’s core businesses – power generation, power transmission and rail infrastructure – has a significant presence in India.

Rathin Basu with his strong knowledge of the business and his understanding of the Indian market is the right person for this role. With this nomination, Alstom is confident of charting even greater success in continuation of the strong legacy that it enjoys in India”, said Philippe Delleur, Senior Vice President-International Network of Alstom.
