  • Mumbai : After the success of his earlier work as a young Singer, Guitarist and Music Director, Ssameer was asked to record and shoot his solo Punjabi fusion debut album, ‘Saiyyaan’. The album is being released and supported by “Speed Records”, the biggest name in Punjabi music. The 7-track album is a fusion of contemporary rock with traditional Punjabi folk, and aims to reach out to a diverse audience by cutting across the divides of disparate cultures, social boundaries, time and even language.

Ssameer has spent most of his childhood in Assam. He strongly believes in the beauty of cultural diversity, as also the power of the universal language of love that unites diversity. “Music can cut across boundaries,” says Ssameer, a versatile non-Punjabi speaking singer, who through his work with UK based singers, Jaan and Arya expanded his horizons to incorporate new age sounds in his music. The video of the album is directed by Akash Nelson, and mastered by Robert King of Z-Noise Recording Studios in London. The video will play exclusively on PTC Punjabi for a week with a 16 time daily rotation.

One of the strengths of the album is that it brings a diverse flavour to Punjabi music along with an instant recognition factor due to the atypical accent of the singer. Ssameer, who has done music for several films as well as the music for ‘Halka’, a collection of remixed Sufi songs, which was on Radio Mirchi Top 10 Album charts for consecutive weeks, is confident about the popularity of ‘Saiyyaan.’

“I’m receiving constantly encouraging feedback from my friends and colleagues from the Punjabi music industry. Everyone seems very positive about the popularity of the album due to reasons like, freshness of presentation, tracks and video in a popular but crowded segment.” The album ‘Saiyyaan’ will be available in leading music stores and I-Tunes, among other major digital stores. The physical release is due in April, 2012. Ssameer’s next 2 videos for the songs, ‘Jatta’ and ‘Soniye’ will also be shot in London in April, 2012. A song teaser of ‘Soniye’ is on Reverb Nation and already at the number 3 and 9 positions in Delhi and Indian Pop charts, respectively.

The teasers of the video of ‘Saiyyaan’ from the album were uploaded on Ssameer’s Facebook page, and have already got close to 20,000 appreciative fans in a matter of days. With his modern and new age approach to music, Ssameer wants to reach out to all music lovers across the world and will sing in different Indian languages in future albums. “I’m willing to learn many different Indian languages in my quest to connect with different Indian cultures and sensibilities.”

An added attraction of the album is the featuring of well known local Punjabi artistes such as Daler Mehndi and the extremely popular band, Desi Hustlers. They will be featured in songs like ‘Jatta’ and ‘Singh Surmay’. The music is directed by Manpreet, son of the legendary Shamsher Mehndi.
