Speaking at the opening of the exhibition, Mr. DamodarMadgaonkar said, “I can relate myself to elephant more, as elephant don’t know his actual power and ability to do things in different ways ,most of the time elephant is peaceful ,emotional, hard working but when someone tries to disturb his peace of mind, he shows his actual power. I am also like an elephant.”

Mr.Damodar has done research on Goan proverbs for nearly seven years just to find out the right proverbs which are commonly used by Goan people into their day to day life. He has used elephant in most of his paintings which represents human beings for him in his paintings. He has used proverbs in symbolic language in all his words which includes medium likeoil, charcoal, mix medium, pen and ink,on canvas and on paper.

Mr. NagueshRaoSardessai, Art Curator said, “The visuals in his work play a conjuring game that entices the viewers and glues them with intricate enigmatic brainteasers. Animals flow out of a human face that resembles a toy that further has a protruding lion standing guard. Konkani proverbs are a rich source of knowledge and wisdom, organically collected over several generations, embedded in seemingly casually spoken words and woven into ordinary sentences. By adding a pictorial form to it, Mr. Damodar has built a unique dimension to every proverb thereby sustaining interest of the viewer and younger generation and enhancing the efficacy of the values attached to it. The artworks are riddles to be solved and enjoyed.”
