Krishna Mehta the creative head behind the brand ,” Krishna Mehta” has since three decades been championing the cause of hand made textile and crafts from India, and giving them a contemporary, wearable form in a move to keep alive these traditional weaves and techniques.
After the tremendously appreciated shows in Mumbai featuring the traditional textiles of Gujarat and more recently Manipur, Krishna now focusses her energies on the the age old craft forms of Benaras to create a sensational new line to be shown in New Delhi on 12th October 2013 at the Wills India Fashion Week.
Innovative and sensitive to fashion trends , while being textile driven, Krishna uses printing and dyeing techniques derived from crafts and traditions across the world juxtaposing them with the vibrant handloom textiles to create a timelessly elegant line
The Government of India has taken various initiatives such as mega cluster, subsidised yarn supply and loom upgradation besides brand promotion of Varanasi handlooms with the objective to improve income of weavers. “The present show is dedicated to weavers of Varanasi” says Krishna Mehta.
For the collection at the WFW SP/SUM 2014; Krishna Mehta, along with the Development Commissioner for Handlooms , Ministry of Textiles, Government of India, under their developmental and welfare programs ,showcases the vibrant aspects of the rich handloom textiles from Benaras.
The line up is a stylish mix of elegant garments, and accessories , in a range of hand woven fine cotton and silk Jamdanis, Kinkhabs, Tanchoi, and cutwork fabrics created by using multiple innovative weaving techniques that compliment the materials. Highly artistic design and vibrant color combinations, in various traditional buttis, bellas and phool patti, with a profusion of prints and applique embellishments and embroidery techniques make this a vivid collection that celebrates the age old weaving legacy of Benaras and yet make a proud statement of modern day India inspired style.
