  • Through the Grapevine: The 2014 Chevrolet Silverado

    Published on October 30, 2012

Rumors abound about the upcoming truck from GM, the 2014 Chevrolet Silverado. The representatives of the company have been making relatively vague official statements about the tech specs of the truck, as well as releasing carefully studied and post-processed photographs of the car. However, since the vehicle seems to be major piece of news to be coming from Detroit in less than a year-and-a-half’s time, bloggers, journalists and truck aficionados alike have been keeping the rumor mill going with their surmising and guess-work about the car. The 2014 Chevy Silverado has been recently spotted driving on the streets of Detroit. The pictures taken then, as well as assumptions made by the experts, make up for a rather interesting take on what has already been heralded as the truck of the year in 2014.

Those on the market for trucks for sale might already be considering putting off a purchase in 2013, only to await the release of this spectacularly designed and much improved truck. However, it is still not entirely clear what these improvements consist of. If you’d like to know what the world wide web is saying, here’s a round-up of the most believable rumors we’ve tallied up in our daily rounds of searching.

    –          As seen in the official photos, the dashboard on the upcoming car is padded.

    –          The engine is probably going to be a smaller one, such as a V-8, or perhaps even the latest V-6 release. Most sources lean in favor of the Generation 5 small V-8. The rumors have it pegged as an aluminum block engine with direction injection and the capacity to deactivate the cylinder. However, a V-6 version might also be offered: either a 3.6 liter V-6, or an all-new high-power, smaller capacity type of V-6, with only 3.0 liters in tow.

    –          The lighter-duty models of the truck, namely the 1500 Chevrolet Silverados to be released in 2014, will possibly also feature an 8-speed transmission system. The GM engineering team is working on this new feature, but it might not be finished in time for the slated release date.

According to the press release that accompanied the latest batch of official photos released by GM, the vehicle will start production in 2013. It is currently still in the testing phase, moving up to final validation. The release also states that “the team has paid considerable attention to delivering a comfortable, well-balanced ride.” All we can do, for the time being, is take their word for it and wait until next year to know what that ride entails specifically.
