From Edtechs to EVs, Indian entrepreneurs who disrupted varied segments

What differentiates a common man from an entrepreneur is the zeal to turn problems into solutions, and eventually into business ideas. However, it is easier said than done, for there might be many who are full of ideas but not everyone can covert those ideas into reality. Here we take a look at five such entrepreneurs from across different industries who did not merely decide to follow their passion but effectively transformed lives of themselves and hundreds others by turning their vision into reality.

Himanshu Gandhi: Natural, organic and botanical are the keywords that are believed to drive the Indian personal care market, and one name to reckon with in the segment is that of Himanshu Gandhi, a former government officer, who married the then Infosys employee Rishu Gandhi to jointly launched premium baby care brand Mother Sparsh. The brand introduced India’s first 99% Pure Water Baby Wipes and over the years crafted wide range of products for wellbeing of babies & millennial moms. Recently, the brand forayed into personal care segment as well. Himanshu’s brand consists of products comprising plant-powered, organically derived and botanically sourced ingredients.

Abhinav Girdhar: In 2015, he founded Appy Pie with a commitment to bringing new-age technology to the technological novices and even those who do not have deep pockets. Appy Pie is a no-code platform with which anyone can build apps, chatbots, websites etc, without any knowledge of coding in simple DIY steps. The tech enthusiast’s visionary enterprise has been transforming businesses in India as well as other parts of the world. He is one of the frontrunners in the niche space of DIY app building. Abhinav is a tech-savvy individual and Apple fanboy.

Anmol Bohre: According to Anmol Bohre, who co-founded Enigma Automobiles along with his brother Alankrit Bohre, says it wasn’t any entrepreneurial drive that led to the inception of the brand. Bohre brothers began their journey in the EV vehicle segment following a realization that the market of eco-friendly transport alternatives was appallingly skewed in India. He was intrigued by e-rickshaws during a visit to Delhi, following which he decided to offer economical EVs to all countrymen. Enigma currently has a manufacturing unit spanning over 20,000 sq ft in Bhopal, which produces nearly 500 vehicles every month.

Avinash Raghav: He turned an entrepreneurial vision into reality by building an innovative business that focused on maximizing the benefit for consumers while keeping the requirements of movers & packers domain fulfilled. Shift Freight, a brand he co-founded just before the pandemic outbreak as part of a team that calls itself Crazy 4, is currently one of India’s fastest growing movers and packers aggregators. The logistics player currently has presence in nearly 20 cities across the country, including Bengaluru, Pune, Chennai, Hyderabad and Delhi-NCR. The company is set to foray soon into the US market as well.

Dev Roy: Once the youngest Managing Director of Barclays Capital, Dev Roy turned an entrepreneur to introduce India’s first social learning app. While most other Edtechs were vying to replicate classroom education with an examination-centric approach, he disrupted the space with a platform that thrived on the power of data and a massive bank of User Generated Content. He founded Digital Aristotle, which offers bouquet of Edtech platforms for meeting specific needs of students and teachers. While Digital Aristotle transforms the process of learning with gamification techniques and power of AI, it also enhances assessments and valuation with the help of data.
