  • Bangalore:  UL (Underwriters Laboratories), a global safety science organization and CNN-IBN, India’s leading English news channel, today announced the launch of “India Demands Safety Standards”, an editorial-led multi-pronged initiative that showcases the importance of safety Standards across various verticals.

    The campaign is designed at raising consumer awareness on the advantages of safety-compliant products/ devices & technology vis-à-vis non-certified alternatives across varied categories such as toys, electronic devices, medical equipments and even the buildings.

    The first chapter of this initiative will focus on the Healthcare sector, throwing light on the safety regulations and standardization of medical devices and equipment that the industry must follow to ensure safety of the patients as well as the individuals operating it. A special meet on Safer Healthcare will be held in New Delhi on Tuesday, February 9th 2016 at The Oberoi, 6:30 PM onwards and will have the industry leaders from various companies attend the event.

    The event will be addressed by Dr. Naresh Trehan, Chairman, Medanta-The Medicity and Ms. Shobana Kamineni, Executive Vice-Chairperson, Apollo Hospitals & VP, CII. This will be followed by a panel discussion on ‘Safeguarding Public Health through Effective Regulation of Medical Devices’ joined by various experts such as Dr Ashok Seth (Chairman, Fortis-Escorts Heart Institute), Mr. K L Sharma (Joint-Secretary, Ministry of Health), Mr. Milan Rao (President & CEO – India & South Asia, GE Healthcare) and Mr. Upayan Sen Gupta (VP & GM, UL Life & Health) on the panel.
