  • Vitesse Joins AVnu Alliance to Support Audio Video Bridging

    Published on March 3, 2011

United States : Vitesse Semiconductor Corporation, a leading provider of advanced IC solutions for Enterprise and Carrier networks, has joined the AVnu Alliance, an organization formed to ensure interoperability in implementations of IEEE 802.1 Audio Video Bridging (AVB), and the related IEEE 1722 and 1733 standards for transport and real-time protocols in professional audio and video equipment.

“AVnu welcomes the participation of Vitesse as a working member of the AVnu Alliance,” said Lee Minich, marketing work group chairman of AVnu Alliance. “Vitesse’s long history in Ethernet and high quality video systems aligns well with AVnu’s efforts to bring Ethernet-based AVB solutions to the mass market.”

The AVnu Alliance is an industry forum dedicated to enabling affordable professional-quality audio video transport by promoting the adoption of IEEE 802.1 AVB and the related standards over various networking link-layers. AVB protocols provide high reliability and low latency for the most demanding professional environments, while leveraging the open standards and economies of widely available Ethernet technologies. Specifically, AVB-based architecture implements synchronization, traffic shaping for media streams and admission controls using relatively small extensions to standard Layer-2 MACs bridges. This is essential to enabling infrastructure efficiencies in HD video distribution and matrixing in large broadcasting facilities that route and switch uncompressed HD video. Vitesse brings its own significant expertise that intersects the realms of broadband content, professional video systems and standardized networking equipment.

“Vitesse is pleased to join the AVnu Alliance and contribute towards realizing the potential of Ethernet-based AVB solutions,” said Martin Nuss, vice president of strategy and technology at Vitesse. “Our experience in packet over Ethernet protocols, professional video and networking
