  • Wipro Honored with the ESCAP-Sasakawa Award for Disability-Inclusive Business 2013

    Bangalore : Wipro Ltd., a leading global information technology, consulting and outsourcing company today wiproannounced that it received the ‘2013 ESCAP-Sasakawa Award for Disability-Inclusive Business in Asia and the Pacific’, in the category ‘Disability-Inclusive Multinational Enterprise’.

    The award for Disability-Inclusive Business was established by ESCAP in cooperation with The Nippon Foundation (TNF) and the Asia-Pacific Development Center on Disability (APCD) to recognize and honor companies that have made a significant breakthrough in engaging and hiring people with disabilities in their daily operations. The award is an initiative that views persons with disabilities as an untapped workforce. Wipro was identified amongst nominations from across 62 countries, for its excellence in including employees with disabilities in its business model, enabling mainstream careers for them and for supporting them through accessible software applications.

    Isaac George, Vice President and Human Resources Head, Wipro Infotech said, “Our disability-inclusive business model was formalized in 2009. It has proved to be very successful for our employees as well as our customers. We currently employ over 450 persons with disabilities. They have the opportunity to pursue mainstream careers through the supporting framework of accessible software applications, physical infrastructure, policies, training and culture building initiatives. Our “Persons with Disabilities” program has made Wipro a more vibrant, diverse workplace with a strong inclusive culture.”

    Wipro’s “Persons with Disabilities” initiative is an essential part of its sustainability program. The company’s efforts within and outside the organization, stem from a deep belief that inclusion is the right thing to do and makes business sense.
