  • Women believe in a good work – life balance says BharatMatrimony Survey

    Chennai : BharatMatrimony, the world’s first and largest matrimonial website, today announces the results of their online survey for women on work life balance conducted on their Women’s Day special micro site. More than 2,500 women of all age group, both married and unmarried, participated in the survey.

    More than 95 % of the women who had taken part in the survey said that a good work life balance is important for organizations to be more effective and successful. The survey showed that nearly 70 % of the married respondents observe Matrimony Day on April 14th, a day celebrating the joys of matrimony, where as 80 % are aware of the matrimony day every year. The survey result also showed that married women are getting support from their husbands in running the household as well as child care.

    “The work life balance is one of the greatest challenges in a woman’s life. This survey is mainly designed to gauge the views of women about the balance between work and personal life. It has revealed various aspects of women regarding the work and life balance. They (the survey results) are of particular relevance to the HR departments of companies keen on providing a comfortable and happy working environment to their women employees”, says Murugavel Janakiraman, CEO, Consim Info Pvt Ltd.

    Around 50 % of the participants found their work- life balance as good where as 25 % marked excellent for it. For 15 %, the balance is fair and 10% rated it as poor.

    The survey also shows 50% of women work for 8-9 hours daily and only 10% women’s working time exceeds 12 hours. Nearly 30 % of the women found work stressful where as 55 % thought about work sometimes (when not at work) while 25 % often thought about work (when not at work); 20 % never thought about work.(When not at work).

    60% participants have chosen music and dance as the top stress reliever, and yoga stands second with 20%.. Obesity was the number 1 stress related condition (35%) followed by frequent headaches (20) and high BP (18).

    More than 45 % of the women go for family outing weekly; it was a fortnightly event for 35 %; 20 % rarely went out for an outing with their family. When it came to child support systems, 50 % of the women depended on their in-laws; 20 % turned to their own parents and 10 % on their relatives.

    Of the women who are not working currently, 35 % said that they were looking out for a full time job; while 20 % were on the lookout for a job on flexi time. In the non-working group, an overwhelming majority (80+) said that they were happy being a home-maker. About 40 % of them are interested in working from home if they get a chance. However, nearly 70 % of them felt that the time they would spend with their families would shrink if they take up a job.
