World Environment Day is being celebrated across the globe today to spread awareness about the need to protect and conserve Environment. India is the global host for the World Environment Day this year organized under the United Nations Environment Programme. This year’s theme “Forests- Nature at Your Service” is in alignment with the UN declaring 2011 as the International Year of Forests. Several functions like screening of documentaries, green walkathon, and biodiversity film festivals are being organized across the country to celebrate the day.

In Karnataka, one crore saplings are being planted on the occasion. Environment and Forest Minister will also release the UNEP report on “Green Economy and the Forests” in New Delhi today.
