Chennai: World Vision India launched the My City Initiative-a Mega Urban Development Programme in Chennai on 17th Febrauary at the Balar Kalvi Nilayam in Chennai. The focus of the initiative is to address the health and child protection issues in the city. World Vision India will partner with the  state government, corporates and  Institutions for taking forward the intitiative.

 Launching the My City initiative, the Chennai Mayor, Saidai Duraiswamy lauded World Vision India’s work towards addressing child rights and working closely on different development programmes. Duraiswamy said it is important to involve people in making Chennai a healthier city. My City initiative he said will help to bring awareness on the health and cleanliness issue. “My government believes in working closely with people for improving their life and we shall extent complete support towards making the My City Initiative a reality.”

World Vision India has embarked on the “My City Initiative” to strengthen quality and scale World Vision India’s impact towards addressing Urban Poverty and to leverage the whole city approach for more effective policy level engagements. In Chennai World Vision India is working in 40 slums spread across 12 areas in the city. The My City Initiative-Chennai will focus on working for a Healthy City. “In this we seek to partner with government agencies and key stakeholders in drawing their attention to issues of health and will jointly to address them. The vision of this initiative is to have a city where our children thrive-to enjoy the fullness of life. Through this initiative we are hopeful that children irrespective of their status are able to access health and a clean environment”

My City Initiative is operational in Delhi, Chennai, Kolkotta, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Bangalore and Guwahati. Each of these operations has a city theme to address as follows: Delhi – safe city, Mumbai – resilient city, Kolkotta – child friendly city, Chennai –healthy city, Bangalore – eco friendly city, Hyderabad – good governance, Guwahati – peace city. Through the My City Initiative we will focus City as a community through shared service approach.
