  • Bengaluru : After a highly successful event last year, Yahoo! India R&D is organizing the second ‘Apache Hadoop India Summit 2011’ on Feb 16, 2011. The day-long event will provide the Indian cloud computing community with a chance to hear speakers from leading Internet and technology companies and learn how organizations are driving business results through Apache Hadoop and cloud computing. In addition, researchers from IIT Madras, IIT Bombay, IISc Bangalore, IIIT Hyderabad will discuss how cloud computing and Hadoop can be used to solve complex research problems. Hadoop is the open source technology at the epicenter of big data and cloud computing, helping companies get value from their data and better manage their businesses.

    Yahoo!’s application of cloud computing technologies and Hadoop has played a pivotal role in enabling Yahoo! to rapidly personalize its content and advertising offerings to deliver highly relevant customer experiences, while maintaining the trust of its 600 million users. Yahoo! is currently the leading contributor to Hadoop, running the world’s largest Hadoop implementation consisting of more than 40,000 nodes.

    According to Hari Vasudev, vice president, Cloud Platform Group, Yahoo! India R&D “as one of the largest Internet companies in the world, Yahoo! initially used Hadoop for projects within Yahoo! Labs and has since built it into a robust platform used across our business to develop increasingly personalized consumer and advertising experiences at a global scale. As the largest contributor to the Apache Hadoop project, Yahoo! considers it important to bring the community together to discuss best practices, trends and innovations.”

    Participants at the Apache Hadoop India Summit 2011 will get an opportunity to hear and learn from experts working on Apache Hadoop and will also discuss large scale distributed computing across verticals. Todd Papaioannou, chief architect of cloud computing at Yahoo! and vice president of cloud architecture will give the keynote address at the event. The event is also supported by from Amazon and Informatica.
