    Published on April 21, 2014

Yosemite National Park: Yosemite Lodge at the Falls, operated by Delaware North Companies (DNC) Parks & Resorts at Yosemite, Inc., announces the completion of a $10 million dollar multi-phased refurbishment of the hotel’s guest rooms and lobby in addition to Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) updates to accessible paths of travel. Reflective of DNC’s award-winning environmental stewardship platform GreenPath®, the hotel’s guest rooms were remodeled using eco-friendly materials. Yosemite Lodge at the Falls guest rooms were designed Yosemite renovated Lodge roomwith a soothing, neutral palette featuring Yosemite-themed artwork by local photographers.

Highlighting eco-friendly upgrades, all rooms were freshly painted using California-based Kelly Moore paints with low or zero VOC (Volatile Organic Compounds). Each room features new carpet and bathroom tiles made from recyclable materials, as well as ENERGY STAR flat-screen televisions. Lighting was enhanced with steel wall sconces, pendants and floor lamps using energy-efficient compact fluorescent bulbs.

Yosemite Lodge at the Falls sourced furniture from U.S.-based Old Hickory Furniture Company to outfit the rooms.  This rustic, durable collection is made using mid-western hickory saplings – the hardest wood in North America and a renewable source that continually re-sprouts from the same stump. The guest room headboards are designed with an uncut and natural ‘live edge’, which makes each headboard unique. All guest rooms feature wood recycle caddies designed by Old Hickory Furniture Company.

Bathroom eco-friendly elements include refillable bath amenity dispensers to reduce plastic waste. The bathroom waste baskets and tissue holders are made of bamboo. The new bathroom fixtures, created locally in Madera, are water-efficient. The toilets use only 1.28 gallons of water per flush, which will save 5,000 gallons of water each year.

During the renovation process, DNC Parks & Resorts at Yosemite was able to divert more than 117 tons of construction waste from a landfill contributing to a 52% diversion rate. All guest room furniture replaced in the renovation was repurposed and the old bathroom fixtures were donated to Habitat for Humanity.

Situated near the base of Yosemite Falls, Yosemite Lodge at the Falls carries a unique history as the site where the U.S. Cavalry was based while the park was under its protection. Built in 1915, the Yosemite Lodge at the Falls complex was modernized in 1956 and again in 1998 to emphasize glass and wood detailing that blends with the natural surroundings. Yosemite Lodge at the Falls services and amenities include an outdoor pool, bike rentals, tour desk, Mountain Room Restaurant, Mountain Room Bar, Food Court and Gift Shop.
