  • Youth of Rotaract Club of Mumbai DownTown Take Charge to Create Voting Awareness in Mumbai City-

    Mumbai :  Rotaract Club of Mumbai DownTown (aka RCMDT), a youth wing of the Rotary International, took the walls outside Matunga station (Tulsi Pipe Road) to create inspiring Members in action1and powerful graffiti paintings just before the Maharashtra elections which will take place on the 15th of this month. The Voters Awareness Campaign was held with an objective to increase the awareness and importance of voting in our civil society, especially the youth and thereby develop a sense of responsibility towards the state and thus the nation.

    Rotaract Club of Mumbai DownTown conducted the Voters Awareness Campaign at the Matunga station due to its easy access and high visibility to the lakhs of commuters daily. The campaign witnessed enthusiastic participation from young members of the club where they put forth their ideas about voting and a mumbaikar’s rights and responsibility towards the city through artistic graffiti’s thereby enabling themselves and viewers to evolve into responsible and compassionate citizens.

    Speaking about the initiative, Rtr. Rohan Dalmia, President, RCMDT 2014-2015 said “Today the youth is at the heart of everything and it is very important that this section of the society understands what power rests with them and how responsible their actions need to be. We are pleased to have launched this campaign, which is aimed at spreading the strong social message of participating in the democratic process of shaping the nation’s future. Being a youth organization social engagement and development is a pivotal part of our programs“

    Another participant and club member Rtr. Yusuf said “Through this initiative we wanted to make a meaningful contribution to the needs of the local community that we are a part of. Even if 10 people were reminded about their voting rights due to these paintings we consider our job done. Rotaract gives us a platform to work in diverse areas such as Child Education, Senior Citizen Empowerment, Societal Awareness and various other development programs. These engagements have helped us to build relationships with various communities and imbibe a great sense of value & relationships that make us the responsible youth of today.”
