  • Maha Govt initiates action against 8 hospitals including Breach Candy, Lilavati and Fortis for stent overcharging

    Maharashtra Government has initiated action against eight hospitals that were found overcharging medical devices like stents. Maharashtra’s Food and Drug Administration Minister Girish Bapat informed the state council yesterday that eight hospitals were Hospitalfound to be charging stents in the range of 1.05 lakh rupees to 1.90 lakh rupees although they had procured the same at 50,000 rupees to 90,000 rupees.

    Maharashtra’s Food and Drug Administration Minister Girish Bapat said that cases have been registered against hospitals like Fortis, Breach Candy, Lilavati, Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani, Asian Heart Institute, Global, L H Hiranandani and Sir H N Hospital under Legal Metrology Act and Consumer Protection Act for overcharging medical devices.

    Stating that government has prepared a list of eighteen medical devices that have to be sold only at MRP; Mr. Bapat said that notice boards providing Legal Metrology Department’s phone number, e-mail ID and WhatsApp number have been put up at all the hospitals, so that people can register their complaints.

    The minister has further warned hospitals and stent suppliers that non-bailable cases would be registered against them if they were found to be overcharging patients
