The 3rd edition of the National LevelVasai-Virar Mayor’s Marathon will be flagged of on Sunday,October 27, 2013 andis once again expected to attract the cream of the country’s long distancetalent, along with thousands of serious, amateur participants from Mumbai,Thane, Navi Mumbai as well as the other districts and states in the country.

This was announced by the Mayor ofthe Vasai Virar City Municipal Corporation, Shri Narayan Mankar in the presenceof MLA Kshitij Thakur, AFI President Adille Sumariwala, ‘Face of the Event’Milind Soman and Rajiv Patil the first Mayor of the corporation.

To make the event more accessible torunning enthusiasts from Mumbai, Thane, Navi Mumbai as well as other districtsin the state and cities in the country, registrations have gone online thisyear, announced the Mayor. Online and physical registrations for the event willbegin from Monday,August 19, 2013 andwill end on October 10, 2013. Online registrations can be done from the eventwebsite www.vvmcmayorsmarathon.com.

Physicalcopies of the registrations form will be available at different locations inVasai-Virar.  Forms can also be downloaded from the event websitewww.vvmcmayorsmarathon.com

The timing chip is mandatory for allparticipants of the Full Marathon and the Half Marathon and registration feefor the same, inclusive of the cost of the Timing Chip, has been fixed at Rs300.

Completely filled forms, along withthe timing chip fee in the form of cash or cheque/DD can be sent bypost/courier to the Vasai-Virar City Municipal Corporation (Mayor’s Marathonoffice) Head Office, Bazaar Ward, Virar (East), Post-Vasai, Dist-Thane,Pincode-401305. The chequesshould be drawn out to the “Vasai Virar City Municipal Corporation – MahapourMarathon.

For the third year running, the themeof the Vasai-Virar Mayor’s Marathon will be the welfare of the girl child andits motto will be “Save theGirl Child and Maintain Nature’s Balance”.

Elaborating on the arrangements to beput in place for the 3rd Vasai-VirarMayor’s Marathon, the Mayor said all participants would be provided atraffic-free route, with adequate water stations and energy drink along theroute. Medical stations and fully equipped ambulances, staffed withwell-trained medical personnel would also be present to ensure the safety andwell-being of all participants. Free shuttle bus service to and from Vasai andVirar stations to the start/point will be provided on race day to facilitateparticipants to reach the venue without undue hassle.

The 3rd Vasai-Virar Mayor’s Marathon has gotthe sanction of the AFI as well as the Maharashtra Athletics Association andofficials from all over the state will be deployed to oversee the technicalconduct of the event. The event will also enjoy the complete support of theThane Rural Police to ensure the safe and successful conduct of theevent.  Besides the technical officials, there will be around 100 pilotbikes and around 1000 volunteers on Race Day to assist in its smooth conduct.
