    New Delhi: Five student-athletes from India’s leading private university, Lovely Professional University (LPU), have been selected for the Pro Kabaddi League (PKL) Season 8. These include Surinder Singh, Sagar, Rakesh Sangroya, Mitu Sharma and Jaideep Dahiya. The Pro Kabaddi League’s new season is scheduled to start from December 22, 2021 in Bengaluru, Karnataka. It will see participation from top kabaddi players from India as well as oversees including countries like Iran, South Korea, Japan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.

    As many as 12 participating team ownership groups participated in the auction process, out of which 4 teams – Telugu Titans, Tamil Thalaivaas, Gujarat Giants and Haryana Steelers have selected these 5 LPU students. LPU student Surinder Singh has been acquired by team Telugu Titans for a bidding price of  Rs 55 lakhs; Sagar has been selected by team Tamil Thalaivaas for Rs 8 lakhs; Rakesh Sangroya will play for Gujarat Giants for Rs 7.98 lakhs; while, Meetu Sharma and Jaideep Dahiya have been selected by Haryana Steelers for Rs 7.98 lakhs each.

We are proud of our athletes that have made it to the Pro Kabaddi League Season-8. This is the results of their rigorous training, determination and hard work that has paid off during the selection process. We are confident that they will show their mettle in the league and do exceptionally well for their teams.”

    Indian Kabaddi took a huge leap forward in the year 2014 with its first professional league where some renowned entrepreneurs showed their interest as team owners. The league is supported by International Kabaddi Federation, Asian Kabaddi Federation and Amateur Kabaddi Federation of India. With the introduction of Pro Kabaddi League, Kabaddi has gained its place as a prestigious sport with huge broadcasts and lucrative prizes.
