  • GLC Mumbai Emerges Winner in Chagla Memorial National Moot Court Competition 2013

    It is indeed a matter of pride that Government Law College – GLC Churchgate Mumbai won this competition in which top ranking Law colleges in India today had keenly contested.

    The Moot Court Association (MCA) of GLC was inaugurated in February 1955 by the then Hon’ble Education Minister, Mr. Dinkar R. Desai, under the aegis of Principal Mr. K. R. Mehta. In recognition of Mooting as an imperative co- curricular activity, the members of the MCA work unstintingly to promote and encourage mooting in Government Law College.

    In pursuance of this objective, the MCA singularly co-ordinates all the mooting activities at GLC. The 19th M.C Chagla Memorial Government Law College National Moot Court Competition, 2013 was held during 12-13 January. Late Mr. M. C. Chagla had been the first Indian Chief Justice of the Bombay High Court and a former Professor of Constitutional Law at GLC.

    The top teams which participated in this year competition apart from host GLC included Christ University Law School and NLSIU both from Bangalore, ILS Pune, NUJS Kolkata and Symbiosis Noida. The judges lined up were Hon’ble Smt Justice R.S Dalvi, Hon’ble Mr. Justice R M Savant, Hon’ble Mr. Justice R. D Dhanuka and the dignitaries present included Mr. Iqbal Chagla, senior counsel and trustee of the MC Chagla Memorial Trust along with his son Mr. Riyaz Chagla, also a trustee of the same. For the Semi Final rounds, Mr. Darius Khambatta, Advocate General of Maharashta was present as a judge, along with Senior Counsels , Mr Nitin Thakkar, Mr.Fredun. De Vitre, Mr Aspi Chinoy, Mr Milind Sathe and Mr Pradeep Sancheti. The final round of arguments took place at the Indian Merchants Chamber, Churchgate between School of Law, Christ University, Bangalore and Government Law College. The judges commended the standard and quality of arguments, as both teams put up an exceptional display of advocacy skills. GLC Mumbai emerged as the winner.
