  • Airtel Champions League Twenty20 records an impressive 35 % increase in TV ratings

    New Delhi:The second edition of Airtel Champions League Twenty20 has shown an impressive 35 % increase in TV ratings according to the research agency TAM. The tournament recorded an average TVR* of 2.05 as compared to 1.52 TVR* last year. The tournament was sampled by 94.5 million** viewers across the country. 92 million individuals sampled the tourney on ESPN STAR Sports bouquet of ESPN, STAR Sports and STAR Cricket. The Disney channels, which showcased 3 matches of ACL T20, took the reach to 94.5 million. The reach figures of ACL T20 are comparable to ICC World T20 held earlier this year in West Indies which reached out to 100 million viewers and is a healthy 22.7% increase over last year’s figures.
    Speaking on the occasion, Rathindra Basu, Sr. Director – Corporate Communications & Business Development, ESPN Software India Pvt Ltd, said, “We are delighted with the audience response for the second edition of Airtel Champions League Twenty20. The viewership numbers have shown an impressive uptrend and we are confident that this marquee event, featuring champion T20 club teams from premier cricketing nations, will grow from strength to strength in the future.”
    The finals between Chennai Super Kings and Warriors rated 4.53 TVR* across the country. The city of Chennai enthusiastically followed the fortunes of its team aggregating 8.3 TVR* for the match.
    This trend was not limited to the finals alone. Throughout the tourney, the respective team cities of three IPL teams which represented India garnered impressive ratings.
    • Four matches of Mumbai Indians gave an average TVR* of 5.6. The Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bangalore encounter returned with a 6.1 TVR* in Mumbai.
    • Six matches of Chennai Super Kings were followed with passion in the city with the city returning an average TVR* of 4.8. The finale as mentioned above takes the cake with ratings of 8.3 TVR.
    • Similarly, Bangalore city fans followed the fortunes of Royal Challengers Bangalore in the ACL T20. Bangalore city averaged 4.7 TVR* for all the five matches of RCB. The Mumbai Indians and RCB encounter generated a high of 5.9 TVR* in the city.
    • Even, the non IPL team cities followed the fortunes of Indian teams with huge interest. Delhi returned an average of 3.0 TVR* for all the 13 matches involving IPL teams. Kolkata, Hyderabad gave an average rating of 3.1 TVR* for the same.
