  • Asian stocks gain ahead of US Treasury Secretary nominee Janet Yellen’s speech

    Asian stocks today gained ahead of a speech by US Treasury Secretary nominee Janet Yellen in which she is expected to call for expansive government action to bolster the American economy.


     
    Experts said, Asia is expected to bounce back this year from the pandemic hit losses and the region will perform better than the European and US stocks.


     
    Hong Kong’s Hang Seng climbed 2.7 per cent and South Korea’s KOSPI surged 2.6 per cent. Japan’s NIKKEI-225 gained 1.4 per cent and Singapore’s Straits Times added 0.2 per cent. China’s Shanghai Composite index ended 0.8 per cent down.
     
    European stocks were trading up in intra-day trade. London’s FTSC-100 gained 0.3 per cent while France’s CAC and Germany’s DAX added up to 0.3 per cent.
