State-run BSNL will offer a minimum broadband speed of 2 mega bit per second (Mbps) from 1st October onwards to its customers, at no extra cost.
More than a crore BSNL landline broadband customers will get a minimum internet speed of 2 megabits per second against existing speed of 512 kilobits per second on their existing plans.
This move could trigger a drop in data speed tariffs of private Telecom operators.
Union Communications minister Ravi Shankar Prasad launched the services in Gurgaon on Monday. He said govt has made a number of reforms in BSNL.
