    The most common cause of cervical cancer is the virus called human papillomavirus. Out of all HPV viruses, HPV 16 and 18 are the most predominant types which cause cervical cancer. Cervical cancer is highly preventable and highly curable if caught early. Nearly all cervical cancers could be prevented by HPV vaccination cervical cancer screening, and appropriate follow-up treatment when needed. All people ages 9 to 45 can get the HPV vaccine to protect against genital warts as well as HPV-related cancer. It’s recommended that children get the vaccine between the ages of 9 to 14, so they’re fully protected years before they become sexually active.
