  • Centre reaffirms enactment of National Food Security Act

    The Centre has reaffirmed enactment of the National Food Security Act to ensure availability of food grains at reasonable prices, especially to the weaker and vulnerable sections of the society.

    Talking to reporters in Guwahati on Thursday, Union Minister of State for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, Prof K V Thomas said that the government will table the proposed Bill in the Winter session of the Parliament.

    The Minister also asked the governments of north-eastern states to plug loopholes in the Public Distribution System. He also said that a proposal of construction of storage godowns of 5.4 lakh tonnes capacity in the north-eastern states, has been approved. Earlier, Prof. Thomas chaired a meeting of Food Ministers and Food Secretaries of the region to review the Food and Public Distribution System.
