:SOMERVILLE, MA:Daddy Jones Bar and Restaurant (http://daddyjonesbar.com), a lively restaurant offering outdoor dining, casual Greek food and burgers, serving the Somerville community since 2012, has officially opened its newest venture, the Coffee Shop, now open Saturdays and Sundays beginning at 8 a.m.

Dimitra Murphy, owner of Daddy Jones Bar & Restaurant, said that they have been testing and refining the concept for some time and are now ready to offer their customers a unique coffee and breakfast sandwich experience.

Daddy Jones is working with Salem, MA based Atomic Roasters to deliver a robust variety of coffees for their customers. From traditional to cold brew to espresso (and almost everything in between), Daddy Jones will serve coffee which is roasted and produced locally. Atomic Roasters has served the North Shore and Greater Boston for more than two decades. All coffee is roasted to order, and packaged by hand at its roastery in Salem, MA.

Heading up the front of house for the Coffee Shop is Henry Sprick, a University of Massachusetts student who is fluent in Spanish, and a self-described coffee lover. The Somerville native, who has traveled extensively, was a cross country student of restaurant owner Dimitra Murphy, who coached the sport at Somerville High School.

Sprick is joined in the Coffee Shop by Luis Torres, a Cambridge native and Somerville resident who has completed extensive kitchen training in Los Angeles and also honed his skills in Florida and Colorado before returning to Somerville. His is best known in the restaurant as the creator of several specialty breakfast sandwiches.

Coffee Shop patrons will be able to enjoy, in addition to a variety of coffees, several signature sandwiches. The Santorini is served on a brioche bun, with two “over easy” eggs and cheddar cheese, coconut candy bacon and avocado. The LA is a breakfast delight served with a stone and skillet English muffin including potato hash, scrambled eggs, American cheese and bacon. It is served with a side of Oregano chips imported from Greece.

In addition, Daddy Jones will from time to time share some of its special coffee recipes to the public if people want to try their hand at brewing their own at home. Here is their recipe for Freddo Cappucino.

    Freddo Cappucino

    ·       Two shots of espresso, add ice to the top of your glass.

    ·       In your blender or with a hand frothed, whip one half cup of milk of your choosing- almond whips great.

    ·       Add syrup to your milk, then pour over your iced espresso.

    ·       Voila! Freddo Cappucino

“We love providing great coffee and great breakfast sandwiches for our customers, and we are really excited about our Coffee Shop,” said Dimitra Murphy, adding, “We’re pleased about our relationship with Atomic Roasters! We love the idea of bringing specialty coffee that is homegrown to our customers, and that it is a Massachusetts based business. I have always enjoyed partnering with local businesses and supporting their efforts where I can. And I can’t say enough about the great job that Luis and Henry do here for our customers. Please come by and check out our latest innovation.”

In addition to coffee and breakfast sandwiches, Daddy Jones will offer baklava. Customers can order in person or online for takeout, or enjoy their coffee and breakfast in the restaurant’s spacious outdoor patio dining area. Future plans call for expanding the coffee service more when restrictions are lifted and including work stations for individuals who want to plug in their computers or ipads and enjoy some time at the restaurant.

At present, with the City of Somerville’s recent indoor mask mandate, Daddy Jones is emphasizing takeout and outdoor dining for its coffee service as well as daily dinners. In accordance with the COVID restrictions, the restaurant has temporarily paused its indoor dining option. Murphy, a Somerville native whose menu offerings include Greek and American cuisine, said that she is hopeful that the COVID delta variant will be under control in the near future and they will be able to resume indoor dining as well as patio and takeout.

“While we all get through this together, we offer a great outdoor patio for in-person dining which can accommodate up to 60 patrons, in an inviting open-air area.  She continued, “In addition, we have a brisk online ordering system for takeout, available on our website.”

In addition to its new coffee service, Daddy Jones serves dinner starting at 5 p.m. daily. The restaurant respectfully requests that patrons wear masks for takeout, pickup, and for bathroom access. There are no mask requirements for outdoor dining.

Patio diners and take-out patrons can choose from a number of menu items including Ziki (yogurt dip served with cucumbers and warm pita), Red Pepper Feta, Falafel & Hummus, Sweet Potato Fries, Greek Salads, Gyro Wraps, Turkey Burger Lettuce Wrap, Daddy MacBurger, Athena Burger, Baklava, and more.
