  • Experts feel energy conservation starts from town planning and is dependent on individual lifestyle

    Today at Heritage Institute of Technology Kolkata (HIT-K), Petroleum Conservation Research Association (PCRA) in From L to R -Mr. P.K.Agarwal,Mr. Indrajit Bose,Dr. D.C.Ray,Mr. P.K.Raychaudhuriassociation with Department of Chemical Engineering HIT-K organized a “Energy Conservation Workshop for industrial Development” under TEQIP-II. The workshop will continue till tomorrow. The inaugural address in the same was delivered by Mr. Indrajit Bose, Executive Director, Marketing Division, IOCL.  In the workshop Mr. Bose said, “Industries should have technology which can use various sources of energy in the present scenario.” He also said that Energy conservation is very much dependent on the lifestyle of people and it starts from town planning in particular to country planning in a greater extent. “To achieve complete sustainable development, we must have a change on our lifestyles and current lifestyle the people are adopting incurs huge wastage of energy,” said Mr. Bose. He gave the example of transportation of goods through waterways which is very economical and energy efficient but at present we are unable to utilize the same in an optimum way. “In IOCL we have to reduce road transport of LPG to 30% from 80% and we have to increase transportation through pipelines and other efficient ways,” said Mr. Bose and that will happen by the mid of next year.

    On the other hand Mr. P.K.Raychaudhari, Director, PCRA, gave an overview of the energy sector and through statistical data it was revealed that 33% of the market is dominated by oil in energy sector whereas renewable energy accounts for 1.58% with a annual growth rate of 25% in compare to oil sector which is growing at 1.3%.

    These two days workshop will be deliberate on the issues like Energy Audit, Global Warming, Energy Loss Accounting, Green Buildings and many more. The workshop was also contributed by Mr. S.Mohanta, Addtl. Director, PCRA, Mr. A.Chakraborty, Addtl. Director, PCRA, Mr. A. Nayak, Asst. Director, National Productivity Council, Shri Joy Chakraborty, Divl. Engineer, WBREDA, Mr. Srijit Mukherjee, Schneider India Kolkata, Prof. B.B. Paira, Advisor, KBT, Dr. D.C.Ray, TEQIP Coordinator, Prof. P.Chaudhuri, Principal, HIT-K, Prof. B.R.Saha, HOD, Department of Chemical Engineering, HIT-K and Shri P.K.Agarwal, CEO, KBT. More than 100 participants from different institutes and industries attended the workshop
