  • First day of Chaitra Navaratra being celebrated across the country

    New Delhi : Hindu New Year is being welcomed in different states on Friday with traditional festivities and celebrations.

    The Chaitra Sukladi, Ugadi in Andhra Pradesh, Gudi Padava in Maharashtra and Cheti Chand by the Sindhi community are the same festivals in different names, marking the occasion.

    Gudi Padava is celebrated in Maharashtra while Ugadi is the Lunar New Year in Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka.

    The day is being celebrated as the Chaitra Sukladi in northern parts of the country as it marks the beginning of Chaitra Navaratri and Vikram Samvat 2069.

    Cheti Chand marks the Singhi New Year.

    Prime Minister greeted countrymen on the occasion and said that these festivals, which herald the arrival of New Year, represent the vast cultural diversity, and the common thread of unity across our country.
