    Hyderabad:The Telangana State Regatta started with some perfect racing conditions with medium to light winds today here in the city at Hussain Sagar Lake.

     

    Indias largest fleet of boats floated off the Jetty of the Yacht Club of Hyderabad to sail for trophies and medals in the Sub Junior, Junior, Youth and Senior Categories battling it out to be the Telangana State Champion and the Open Champion.

     

    The most populated fleet was in the Sub Junior Class sailing the Optimist Boat with 48 entries from across multiple states.

     

    Three girls from Telangana dominated the Telangana Trophy with Lakshmi Nookarathnam and Majji Lalitha all from Hyderabad hitting top spots and currently positioned at the top 3 in the state.

     

    All of them are trained at the Yacht Club of Hyderabad and have been sailing for 3 years now.

     

    In the open Fleet Chunnu Kumar of Karnataka topped with three wins out of three followed by Lakshmi Nookkrathnam of Telangana and Uma Chauhan of Madhya Pradesh

     

    In the Juniors local lad Gautham Kankatla came shining through with one win a second and a bad first race with a capsize while he was in the top three to top the Telangana Fleet and lies four in the Open. Erstwhile National Champion Ram Milan Yadav of Madhya Pradesh is at the top followed by Chitresh Thata and Aniketh Rajaram of Tamilnadu in the Open Fleet.

     

    The afternoon racing in for a beginners fleet of fledgeling sailors from across the state of Telangana representing about 15 districts. They are sailing specially designed half rig sails manufactured by Hyde Sails of the UK specifically for the Telangana and Monsoon Regattas and made to help beginners learn to race.
