The Government has put on hold the export of five lakh tones of sugar in view of the high food inflation. The Food Ministry on Tuesday decided to refer the issue of Sugar exports under the Open General License (OGL) to an Empowered Group of Ministers on food. The decision was taken during a meeting convened by the Food and Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar immediately after Prime Minister Manmohan Singh held a meeting with senior cabinet ministers to review the price situation.
