  • IDBI Bank Contributes Rs. 1 Crore to the Chief Ministers Relief Fund Odisha

    Mumbai :   IDBI Bank, as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives, contributed Rs. 1 crore to the “Chief PR PicMinister’s Relief Fund – Odisha” towards immediate relief for the populace affected by the recent cyclone ‘Phailin’.  Shri M. S. Raghavan, CMD, IDBI Bank handed over the cheque to Hon’ble Chief Minister of Odisha, Shri Naveen Patnaik today. Shri SKV Srinivasan ED of the Bank was also present on the occasion.

    Odisha and  adjoining areas witnessed incessant rains, when  cyclone Phailin struck the coast of Odisha on 12th – 13th October, 2013. About 8.73 lakh people were evacuated from areas near the coast, including Ganjam, Puri, Khordha and Jagatsinghapur districts, in the biggest peacetime human movement in the country in 23 years. The state suffered massive devastation and damage running into crore of rupees. Considering the extent of devastation, extensive rehabilitation measures are required in the area for restoration of normalcy.

    Speaking on the occasion, Shri Raghavan said “It is really very unfortunate that lakhs of people had to spend their nights, including Diwali in darkness due to cyclone Phailin.  The grief and anguish of the sufferers are of colossal magnitude. The contribution to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund – Odisha is a modest effort by IDBI Bank to express and demonstrate solidarity with the State Government, in reducing the suffering of the affected populace as a conscientious and responsible corporate citizen of India.”
