Angels children homeBengaluru: iTiffin, an online portal that provides advanced nutrition in the form of a balanced and nutritious tiffin box, tied up with the Bengaluru-based NGO, Open Door Foundation on World Health Day on 7th April, 2015 to visit the Angles Children’s Home. As part of its unique initiative on this occasion, it went an extra mile to understand the food preferences of underprivileged kids at the orphanage in order to specifically cater to their taste.

iTiffin’s team visited the NGO to gain insightful information about the kids at the orphanage so that they could come up with an appropriate meal plan for them. The children living in the NGO are provided authentic south Indian delicacies like rice, sambar, rasam etc. every day and on some days they also get to munch on dishes like poori and masala dosas that count as their favourite foods. Kids prefer to have a side dish, something like a sabji or porial along with every meal. Pizza, KFC chicken and pasta are their oft-preferred indulgences, which they choose to relish through donor-sponsored meals. The team was also briefed about how the kids _MG_0220look forward to Sundays when they can feast on chicken and fish. The NGO shows its concern for the health of children by giving them a drink of Badam Milk for breakfast every morning. Apart from this, the children love Maggi hence, the NGO prefers treating them to a whole packet each so they don’t have to compromise on portions. The team observed that nutritionally, the children get good substantial meals comprising, vegetables, pulses, and carbohydrates. But most of their favorite foods are not the healthiest, as they are either deep fried, or heavily processed fast foods.

Blending its trademark packaging of flavoursome food with a healthy twist, the team has designed a healthy alternative to the children’s most loved Pizza by proposing to serve wheat-based PitaPockets( wheat based)with meat and vegetables, 2 ragi ladoos and a sweet lassi, in right proportions .   This breakfast meal will be distributed to the children by iTiffin’s CEO& Co-FounderTapan Kumar Das along with his team mates on 11th April, 2015.
