Mumbai: The Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies School of Performing Arts has announced admissions for the upcoming academic year for its B.A. Music – Indian Music (Vocal/Sitar) and B.A. Music – Western Contemporary (Vocals /Piano/Guitar/Drums) programs. SOPA started in 2018 with 13 students has grown to 100+ today. The school has also introduced a unique concept called ‘Naad Expression’, which is a monthly concert for both Indian and Western Contemporary music students where students get an opportunity to perform in the presence of faculties and accordingly they receive the feedback & the guidance. This experiential learning tool strengthens their learning at SoPA.
The 3-year B.A. in Indian Music (Vocal/Sitar) focuses on imparting rigorous practical and theoretical knowledge to the students. Regular Riyaz sessions are organized to enhance the student’s learning experience, which prepares them for a thriving career in the field.
Meanwhile, the B.A. program in Music – Western Contemporary Music (Vocals | Piano | Guitar | Drums) provides students with comprehensive training in theory, practical skills, and technology. The program is taught by industry leaders who offer students the opportunity to work with famous musicians, composers, and production houses during a 40-hour internship program in their third year.
SoPA alumni have found success in the music industry. They perform at major venues, collaborate with renowned musicians, and work at prestigious institutes such as Artium Academy, the Crossroads School of Music, Swirl Music, and Spark Studio. Some former students have even formed their own bands, produced music and released singles.
Talking about the programs and SoPA, Dr. Vikas Bharadwaj, Dean – School of Performing Arts, said, “Several students these days are open to pursuing education which is offbeat and are willing to follow their passion for performing arts, especially music. The NMIMS School of Performing Arts provides a great opportunity to learn music from the best in the field which opens up flourishing career avenues for aspiring musicians, be it vocals or instruments. The cutting-edge music infrastructure at our institute and our special curriculum ensure that our students get a sound foundation in both Indian and Western music.”
