  • Chennai: Chennai, the home of motorsports in India, witnessed a high energy afternoon on the karting tracks today at the Red Bull Kart Fight arena. Leading the racing experience was none other than the Chennai boy and India’s first Formula One driver NarainKarthikayen.

Karthikayen raced alongside the budding karters who were fighting it out at the city qualifiers as part of Red Bull Kart Fight. His presence was a motivation in itself for these young drivers. He captivated them with his pep-talk and shared tips on driving with speed and precision.

Interacting with the media, who also came down to experience the thrill of karting, Narain said, “The first Indian Grand Prix has not only unraveled several avenues for the bright future of motorsports in India, but has also encouraged young racers to dream big. Red Bull Kart Fight is a huge platform to recognize young racing talent in the country and nurture them to make it to the next level. The current world champion, Sebastian Vettel, is a great example of this. He started his career with karting and is now the youngest World Champion. I believe that India too can have such champions in years to come with the right amount of dedication and exposure to the sport. Red Bull Racing’s effort in this direction truly lives up to the unparalleled motorsports heritage that they are famous for.”

Red Bull Kart Fight is currently being held across three cities in India– Chennai, Bangalore and Hyderabad. The initiative which started on November 24th is open for passionate motorsports enthusiasts from the age of 15. In its short span of four days, Red Bull Kart Fight has seen young and promising talent battling it out to record the fastest lap time to qualify for their city final. The city winners, top 32 from each city, will compete in a qualifier for a place in the national finals. The top 11 racers from each centre will get a chance to go full throttle and put their skill to test at the National Finals on December 18, 2011 in Bangalore.

Red Bull Kart Fight being held for the first time in India, after successful runs in Netherlands, Japan, Germany and other Formula 1 venues will present to the winner a chance to go to the Red Bull Racing Factory in Milton Keynes.
