New Delhi: Navjyoti India Foundation, which is founded by Dr. Kiran Bedi, organized a Walk on the Ramp show in the city for the underserved children. As a part of the event, the children walked on the ramp with icons of the corporate world to draw attention towards their untapped talent and the need for equal opportunities in terms of quality education, better standards of living and vocational training. Navjyoti India Foundation, founded by Dr. Kiran Bedi over two decades ago, is providing education to the children in urban slums of Delhi and in the rural areas of Haryana.

Chief Guest, CWG 2010 Gold Medalist in Wrestling, Km. Anita Sheoran, said “I feel privileged to be associated with the cause of Navjyoti India Foundation. Every child can now hitch their wagon to a star because they have hope in terms of a better life. Social and economic status should never dictate the potential of a person. Navjyoti India Foundation has been doing a commendable job for the past 23 years, working tirelessly for the development of India.”

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Kiran Bedi said, “We in Navjyoti and India Vision Foundation are constantly in search for widening opportunities for the underserved communities. And this one is a God Sent opportunity. I am very grateful to all our supporters and especially Jasmine Ruanglertbutr for providing outfits to enable our children to discover their hidden potential.”

Navjyoti reaches out to over twelve thousand beneficiaries daily. Of this over four thousand are children in gali schools (door-step school), remedial schooling (school ke baad school) and in community colleges; to take these children from ‘play-way to placements’. Besides organizing schooling for children they have set up vocational training for women to wean them away from a life cycle of crime thereby enabling self employment and group savings.

Navjyoti joined hands with “Play! It” , a Thailand based clothing brand which designed clothes for kids who walked on the ramp.

Director, Play It!, Jasmine Ruanglertbutr, said “These children will get an opportunity to look good and feel good. We can all do our little bit in giving them this chance and donate Play It! clothes back to our stores and we assure you these kids will wear it with a positive attitude”.

The Fashion Show ‘Event for a Cause’ is an endeavour of Navjyoti to provide a platform for the unsung heroes to share their joy and to cherish their dreams and make them a reality.
