The Home Minister Mr. P. Chidambaram has said that no tax is worse than inflation. He, however, wondered whether the government has all tools to rein in high food prices.

Mr. Chidambaram while speaking at a function in New Delhi suggested correction of some administrative prices to check food inflation.

Mr. Chidambaram who also held finance portfolio in the UPA-1 government admitted that it is the duty of the government to maintain price stability.

His remarks came after the food inflation rose to 14.44 per cent for the week that ended on 18th of December. This was mainly due to increased prices of onion.
