The Odisha government has named the wheeler island, the missile launching station of the Defence and Reasearch Development Organisation in the Bay of Bengal close to Dharma coast in the state after former President Dr. A P J Abdul Kalam.

Announcing the decision of the state government, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik said, the wheeler island had played a major role in the test fire of missiles and Dr Kalam has a major contribution in it.

The Indians had a disappointing outing in the US Open with both Leander Paes and Sania Mirza losing their doubles matches with their respective partners. Leander Paes and Fernando Verdasco lost their second round match 5-7, 6-4, 3-6 to unseeded American pair of Steve Johnson and Sam Querrey.

While in Mixed doubles defending champions Sania and Bruno Soares lost 3-6, 3-6 to Czech Republic’s Andrea Hlavackova-Lukasz Kubot in a first round contest lasting 65 minutes.
