    Teachers Day as well as the 15th Foundation Day of Heritage Institute of Technology, Kolkata (HIT-K) was celebrated in a grand way on 4th September, 2015 in the Swami Vivekananda Auditorium of The Heritage campus. The day started off with the inauguration ceremony through lighting up of the lamp to enlighten the path of knowledge. The programme was addressed by Prof. ProfK. Rangarajan, Director, IIFT Kolkata campus as the Chief Guest along with Prof. B.B.Paira, Advisor, Kalyan Bharti Trust, Mr. Probir Roy, Executive Director, Kalyan Bharti Trust, Prof. Pranay Chaudhuri, Principal, HIT-K, Mr. Pradip Agarwal, CEO, Heritage Group of Institutions and other dignitaries of the Institute. During the key-note address, Prof. Rangarajan stressed on the fact that teaching is a passion not merely to be done for the sake of earning salary. A teacher’s role involves lot of commitments and dedication towards the students. Moreover now in the present scenario, Institutions are giving more weightage on infrastructural facilities rather than Knowledge so as to gain good ratings by external rating agencies. But at the end, it is the faculty members on whom the Institution’s success finally depends on. Prof. Ranagarajan also spoke about the Introspection quality of a good teacher and every teacher has to meet the students expectation which are currently changing according to the scenario. “A good teacher never bothers about time. Teaching is not merely a job but one has to be passionate towards teaching,” said Prof. Rangarajan.

    The programme also witnessed an award ceremony where students’ toppers and best performing faculty members were being awarded. Among them were Prof. Partha Basuchowdhuri, Assistant Professor, Department of Computer Science Engineering, awarded for Outstanding Teaching and Prof. Atanu Kundu, Assistant Professor and Departmental Coordinator, Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, HIT-K, awarded for Outstanding Research Accomplishment. Among the students, Ms. Kinkini Deb, B.Tech, Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, was awarded as the Best Overall Performing Student and Mr. Aupal Mondal, B.Tech, Department of Civil Engineering, was awarded as the Topper of the Toppers.  At end the programme was concluded by song and dance performances by the faculty members to mark the onset of new era of knowledge at Heritage.
