  • Bengaluru :  Radio Mirchi Bangalore has associated with the Kidwai Memorial Institute of Oncology for a special cause called “The Happiness Project” to help kids at the cancer institute. India’s No. 1 radio station, that is known for its philanthropy has always championed issues which are relevant to the society.

The children at the Kidwai were encouraged to make a wish for the festive season. This was further facilitated by the on-air listeners of the radio station and celebrities like Nisha Millet, Naveen Richard, Rajeev Ravindranathans team, Swarathma, Arundathi Nag, and Aabha Hanjura, who all came forward with open arms to adopt and fulfil these wishes.

Speaking about the initiative, Manoj Mathan (Regional Director – South) at Radio Mirchi said, “At the end of the year, when one sits to reflect upon all that the year has given us, it always feels incomplete without factoring in what we’ve given in return as well. This initiative helped us give back. Giving is always a source of happiness. And as Mirchi, the ambassadors of happiness, we dare not stay true to our own mantra. On a serious note, we are thrilled to see the outpour of the good willed gestures that flooded our Mirchi office all through the course of The Happiness Project, and we genuinely hope that this little initiative of ours, brings in all the khushi there possibly is, to the lives of these wonderful kids at Kidwai.”

The second step of the project was the donation of grains for the cancer patients at Kidwai. While the Dharamshala at Kidwai makes fresh meals for all the patients, these meals are either free or hugely subsidised. The radio station has collected over 9500 kilos of sona masoori raw rice rice and a 1000 litres of oil, through the studio listeners.

The campaign concluded with an entertaining evening planned at Kidwai for the kids. With performances from improv group ICB, a fun dance by all the RJs of Mirchi 95 – Jimmy, Ridhi and Sarah, a musical performance by Swarathma, and a personalized art piece for the kids by art therapist Rashmi Kothari. The evening left the cancer patients at Kidwai with a huge smile on their faces, thanks to the injection of that Dose of Happiness into their lives.
