  • Rs.100 notes with rupee symbol soon

    The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has stated in a press release issued in Mumbai that it will shortly issue new Rs.100 denomination currency notes incorporating the ‘Rupee’ symbol.

    The RBI has stated that the new notes will be issued in the Mahatma Gandhi Series – 2005 and will bear the signature of the RBI governor, Dr. D Subbarao.

    The year of printing ‘2011’ will be printed on the back of the bank note.

    The release further stated that the design of the new notes will be similar in all respects to the Banknotes of Rs.100 in Mahatma Gandhi Series -2005 issued earlier, except that the new notes will bear the Rupee symbol.

    All the Banknotes in the denomination of Rs.100 issued by the Central Bank in the past will continue to remain legal tender
