    Published on May 7, 2013

Hyderabad :   The State Government has decided to make SMS messages operational in Telugu in a months time.  The time has come for Telugu informed Mr. Ponnala Lakshmaih.  This year has been good for Telugu as we have hosted World Telugu Congress, Now Kakatiya Festival and release of more fonts in Telugu and now Short Message Services(SMS) will become operational in months time, he said while addressing a gethering immediately after unveiling www.telugutimes.net, an online portal for Non Resident Telugus living in USA here today in city at FAPCCI. He was the chief guest and launched the new interface for Non Resident Telugus and Resident Andhrites.

We are a 84 million Telugus living in Andhra Pradesh. Off which nearly 30 million Telugus live outside India.  USA, Australia, Canada are some of the countries where lot of Telugu diaspora live. They need to connect with each other as well as back home to their home state and families. I am confident that telugutimes.net will do a great job in connecting all telugus.

Adding further Lakshmaiah said today most of the media is overly focusing on views rather than news and advised them to focus more on news than views.  He congratulated Telugu Times for bringing out the portal.  Telugu Times is the first global Telugu Newspaper made in Hyderabad and printed in San Francisco for the past ten years. It is the brain child of Jayaram komati, Past President of TANA(Telugu Association of North America). Prasad Prasad Garapati and Subba Row V Chennuri.  It was and is the only Telugu newspaper, while Telugus are the second largest ethnic community living in USA.  While Malayalam, Gujarat has many papers.  Even ten years after Telugu Times launched no other Telugu Paper is being brought out for Ethnic Telugu Community living in USA.

Briefing about the portal, C.V.Subba Row, Editor said  the objective of the portal is to provide Political, Cinema, Communicty and Business news online to the Non Resident American Telugus.  These are the four areas where they show interest.

Speaking on the occasion Murali Bakkpatnam, TiE President advised to be business friendly protal becuse lot of NRIs are looking at investing in Andhra Pradesh.  With so much of state-of-the-art infrastructure, Hyderabad is the future destination for investments by NRIs he said and added that TiE will extend all the support.

There is very little Indian news is covered in American Press.  When i was in USA for few days there, i was suprised even the Indian General Elections results were reported very insignificantly.  This new portal will be the bridge, the connect with Non Resident Telugus and back to their roots.  We at FAPCCI would also like to associate with it and do a cross promotion of each others activities.

The function was also graced by Ms. Sage Moon, Vice Consul, American Consulate, Hyderabad
