  • Hyderabad (Hindusthan Samachar): Though Telangana Congress leaders region are hoping to take advantage of  the image of party president Sonia Gandhi by inviting her for campaign, the Seemandhra Congress is keen on keeping her away.

Seemandhra leaders apprehend that her presence could have adverse political results.

Leaders hope that her visit to Telangana would be helping the  Congress as the perception is that the new state could be formed due to her intervention.

She will be addressing meeting at Karimnagar on April 16. She had announced the Telangana would become a state at Karimnagar in 2004.

Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi will address a public meeting in Warangal on April 18. Party leaders are also making moves to arrange their meetings in some other districts also.

Obviously these programmes are intended to cash in on the goodwill the party secured.

However, Congress leaders in Seemandhra region are afraid of putting up Sonia Gandhi’s posters. According to sources, a section of the Congress leaders have advised the party chief not to address any public meeting in the Seemandhra region on the ground that there were serious security concerns.

They are apprehensive that there might be protest demonstrations if she or Rahul visits the region. But what is more concerning for the party leaders is that there might be a poor turnout of people to her meetings as they are disillusioned with the Congress leadership.
