Student of Heritage Institute of Technology, B.Tech- ECE 4th year Ms. Mayurakshi Mukherjee  secured a bronze medal in the open women’s doubles (2000m) and also secured a silver medal in the open mixed fours (500m) at the Asian Indoor Rowing Championships 2019 which was held in Bangkok recently.

Indoor rowing involves a machine called ergometer that is used to simulate the watercraft rowing experience. Starting as a comprehensive practice technique, indoor rowing has increased in stature and is now considered a sport in its own right.

Mayurakshi considers single sculls – designed for one person who propels the boat with two oars – as her forte. But she competes in other events depending on what the team expects of her, coach Sudip Naha, who has been mentoring her since 2008, said.
“It’s a proud moment for Heritage Institute of Technology where our student had won laurels in the Asian Indoor Rowing Championship. Moreover we have supported Mayurakshi through academics and also in her engineering studies so that she can concentrate and prepare for such a competition,” said Shri P.K.Agarwal, CEO, Heritage Group of Institutions, Kolkata.
